A fight for the future of one hundred million Filipinos.
This is how Secretary of Interior and Local Government Mar Roxas described the challenge of being the standard bearer of Daang Matuwid.
“Hindi lang tayo ang nangangarap nito. Pangarap ng taumbayan ang lahat ng ito, upang maisakatuparan ang kanilang mga gawain,” Roxas said during a Gathering of Friends last Monday (Aug. 24) at Cebu Coliseum.
According to Roxas, the reforms in the national and local government have just started but has already reflected significant improvements to the country’s situation.
These achievements include the 4.4-million beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), the 88% reach of the Philhealth program, the effectivity of the Bottom-up Budgeting (BuB) process, the modernization of the Philippine National Police (PNP) through the distribution of 1490 new patrol jeeps, and the mass procurement of firetrucks for the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
“Nasimulan na ni PNoy ang transpormasyon at ang mamamayan naman ang uhaw sa pamumunong magpapatuloy ng pagbabago,” Roxas said.
“Ang mga hindi pa natin naaabot, nasimulan na nating abutin,” he added.
According to Roxas, the event reminded him of the day he accepted the challenge of sustaining the pro-Filipino reforms initiated by the Aquino administration.
“Ang panawagan nga sa atin: ipagpatuloy, magpalawak, at maging permanente ang pagbabago,” Roxas told the audience, who expressed their full support of the administration’s advocacies.
Almost 5,000 Visayans from various sectors and provinces cheered for the DILG chief, the anointed successor of Daang Matuwid.
In return, Roxas vowed for the continuity of good governance, which guarantees to boost the opportunities and development of the country.
Roxas is also set to declare his platforms and political plans in pursuit of the straight path in the coming weeks.
“Ipaglalaban natin ang magandang bukas ng ating mga kababayan, ng mahal na bayan, ng Daang Matuwid,” Roxas said.
